Matthew 5:24

Leave your gift there before the altar, and go first be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

This word shows that every sacrifice, prayer, or act of worship offered to God has value only when a person’s heart is at peace and purified. The Lord commands that the brotherly bond be restored first, because without love every religious act is an empty form. Jesus emphasizes that communion with God is impossible when there is hostility or offense within a person, and that the true sacrifice is not the gift, but reconciliation, which restores relationships and makes the heart worthy of worship. This word also reveals a divine priority: first, love a person and be reconciled, and only then approach the altar, because the one who rejects his neighbor cannot love God. Thus, reconciliation becomes the foundation of every true sacrifice, without which the offering remains fruitless and unacceptable.
