Blessed are you when they insult you, persecute you, and falsely say every evil thing against you because of me.
This saying is the continuation of the previous blessing, directed to those believers who are persecuted not because of their own fault, but because of their faithfulness to Christ. Jesus teaches that even in unjust persecution there is blessing, if it is for His name. “They will speak falsely against you” means that the world may slander, misunderstand, or accuse the believer simply because he lives by the truth. Yet Jesus promises that this pain is not empty; it is a sharing in His sufferings and a path toward eternal glory. This saying reminds us that true joy does not depend on a calm or comfortable life, but on faithfulness, even amid opposition and injustice. Before God, a great reward is given to those who remain in peace and respond to the slanders of evil with love, patience, and gentleness.
