Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, because the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
This saying reveals the essence of one of the hardest trials of faith: persecution for the sake of righteousness. Jesus blesses those who remain faithful to the truth, even when for it they are subjected to pain and suffering. “Persecuted for righteousness” means to defend God’s will and not renounce righteousness, even if the world rejects it. Their endurance comes not from an earthly reward, but from eternal hope. Jesus promises that the kingdom of heaven is theirs, that is, they already live by the values of God’s kingdom and in eternity will inherit His glory.
