Matthew 3:17

A voice was heard from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

This verse is the climax of the baptism scene, where God the Father openly bears witness about Jesus as his beloved and chosen Son. The voice sounding from heaven confirms Jesus’ messianic and divine identity. The expression “beloved Son” shows the unbreakable unity of the Father and the Son, and the words “with whom I am pleased” mean that Jesus’ life and work are fully in harmony with the Father’s will. This is the complete manifestation of the Holy Trinity: the Father speaks, the Son stands in the water, and the Holy Spirit comes down upon him. This moment becomes the divine confirmation of Jesus’ ministry and a new beginning in the history of salvation.
