Matthew 28:15

The soldiers took the silver coins and did as they had been instructed. And this report has been spread among the Jews to this day.

This verse shows the long-lasting consequence of a lie: the soldiers, taking the silver, submitted to a false report and became spreaders of a lie, trying to silence the truth. Yet what they thought was a controllable story became an exposing testimony, proving that even a lie cannot extinguish the light of the resurrection. The phrase “is spread to this day” points not to a limit of time, but to a person’s spiritual condition, when he chooses to reject the truth, defending the lie that suits him. This episode reminds us that the truth does not disappear. Even if people try to cover it, the truth keeps shining, and the lie becomes its own verdict.
