As they were going, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.
This verse shows two opposing responses to the resurrection: the women, filled with faith, run to announce the good news, while the soldiers, in fear, run to report to the chief priests. The same event gives rise to two paths: faith and rejection. The soldiers’ testimony also confirmed the reality of the resurrection, yet they bring the news to hearts that are blinded and therefore rejecting. This episode reveals, however, that the truth never remains unheard: even those who do not believe become its unwilling witnesses.
