Matthew 27:62

In the morning, that is, the day following Friday, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered to Pilate

This verse introduces a new episode, showing the fear and anxiety of the religious leaders even after they thought that Jesus’ work was finished. “The day after Friday,” the beginning of the Sabbath day, should have been a day of rest, but they had no rest; sin can never give peace. The chief priests and the Pharisees, who acted with cruelty, are now troubled, fearing the words Jesus spoke before being crucified. This gathering before Pilate testifies that the unbelief of the human heart tries to protect its lie, striving in every way to shut the path of truth.
