Matthew 27:43

He trusted in God. Let Him now save Him, if He wants Him. For He was saying, “I am the Son of God.””

These words once again highlight the spiritual blindness of the mockers: they were using the very words with which Jesus addressed the Father. The people who said, “Let Him save Him now, if He desires,” did not understand that this very not-being-saved was the path of salvation. Christ did not avoid death, because of His own will He was going toward it, trusting the Father completely. These words were a prophetic fulfillment of Psalm 21:9: “He trusted in the Lord; let Him save Him, if He desires.” Here the true essence of faith is revealed: to rely on God not when you expect deliverance, but when you trust Him—even on the cross. The world mocked His faith, yet it was that very faith that was saving the world.
