This scene reveals the hidden intervention of a divine warning in the course of judgment. While Pilate was preparing to render a verdict, his wife (according to church tradition, Claudia Procula) received a revelation in a dream and felt spiritual anguish because of that “Righteous One.” Her words, “Do nothing against that righteous man,” show that even the unseen world was bearing witness to Jesus’ innocence. God gave a warning through the woman so that the injustice of the judgment and Pilate’s responsibility in the sin might be exposed, yet Pilate did not listen to that voice.
