Matthew 27:17

When they had gathered, Pilate said to them: “Which of these two do you want me to release for you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”

Pilate’s question becomes the deepest question in the history of humanity: a choice between two paths—sinful Barabbas and the Righteous Christ. This contrast was not only political, but also spiritual: one represented the worldly way of violence and rebellion, the other the divine way of sacrifice and salvation. Pilate, it seems, was trying to lead the people toward the right choice, yet they, blinded by the passions of the crowd, would prefer to release the murderer and crucify the Lord of Life. This question becomes an eternal measure for every heart: to choose Barabbas—the freedom of sin, or Christ—the true freedom.
