With these words Jesus reveals the principle of the kingdom of God, setting it in contrast to worldly thinking. In the world, greatness is often identified with power, position, and influence, but before God, great is the one who serves. “The greatest” here is not determined by title or authority, but by love, humility, and self-giving. Christ shows that the true leader is the one who is ready to lower himself in order to raise others. In this way humility becomes not a sign of weakness, but of spiritual height, and service the true measure of greatness in the kingdom of God.
