And when the people heard, they were amazed at his teaching.
The people, being eyewitnesses to Jesus’ word and wisdom, were amazed not only at His deep knowledge, but also at the divine authority with which He spoke. They saw that Jesus’ answer was not ordinary teaching, but truth flowing from God’s knowledge. He not only silenced the Sadducees, but also opened the true meaning of God’s Word with clarity and power. The people felt the difference between human interpretation and the divine word: Jesus’ teaching did not analyze the law, but made it living. This amazement was the first response of faith, when a person encounters not merely a teacher, but the Lord, who speaks as God.
