For in the resurrection they will neither marry nor be given in marriage, but will be like the angels of God in heaven.
Jesus clearly and plainly explains the main reason for the Sadducees’ error: their earthly ideas about the resurrection. He shows that after the resurrection, human life does not continue by the logic of this world. There is no marriage, physical bonds, or inheritance there, because the resurrection is a new spiritual state. In the resurrection a person does not cease to be a person, but is transformed into an immortal existence whose nature is like the angels: pure, undivided, and fully in the presence of God. This word shows that eternal life must not be measured by earthly laws. It does not repeat temporary orders, but stands beyond their limits. Jesus’ answer reveals the true nature of eternity, where love remains, but changes in form, becoming complete union with God.
