Matthew 22:29

Jesus answered and said to them: “You are mistaken, because you understand neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.”

Jesus’ opening reply immediately reveals the root of the Sadducees’ error: their deception comes from two sources—their ignorance of God’s Word and their lack of trust in His power. “You do not know the Scriptures” means that they have misunderstood the content of Scripture, studying it from a rational, not a spiritual, perspective. And “you do not know the power of God” highlights their unbelief, thinking that God’s ability is limited by the boundaries of death. Jesus shows that the resurrection is a mystery of faith and divine power, not a logical continuation of human laws. This word becomes a lesson for all times: when a person reads Scripture without faith and without recognizing God’s power, he inevitably goes astray—both in mind and in faith.
