Matthew 22:23

That day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus.

The Sadducees come to Jesus, and Jesus encounters them as yet another religious group who rejected the idea of the resurrection and believed only in the Torah, the five books of Moses. They too approach Jesus not to seek the truth, but to test Him, as we will see next, by asking what they considered an unsolvable question about the resurrection. This verse presents a new conspiratorial attempt after the Pharisees’ failure. The Sadducees took pride in their rationality and biblical “purity,” but in reality they were blinded to the mystery of faith. Their coming shows that human tendency in which a person tries to measure the divine mystery by human logic. Thus begins an episode in which Jesus will reveal the true meaning of the resurrection as the confirmation of eternal life.
