And when the time of the harvest drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers to receive his share of the harvest.
The master of the house—God—was expecting the fruits of righteousness from the vineyard He had planted, that is, from the people of Israel, whom God chose and set apart for His kingdom. When the “time of harvest” came, He sent His servants—the prophets—to remind the people of God’s will and of righteous deeds. But this word reveals human ingratitude, because what God expected as the fruit of righteousness was not given to Him. The sending of the prophets shows God’s patience and His repeated reminders toward His people.
