and said to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and there you will immediately find a donkey tied, and the colt with it. Untie them and bring them to me.”
Jesus sends the disciples to carry out a foreseen task, commanding them to find the donkey and its colt, so that His entry into Jerusalem would take place according to the prophecy: “Behold, your King is coming to you, gentle and seated on a donkey” (Zechariah 9:9). This instruction shows that Jesus’ every step was carried out consciously and purposefully, to fulfill God’s plan. His word (“Release them and bring them to Me”) bears witness both to prophetic authority and to gentleness. The gentleness is connected with the fact that Jesus does not enter on a horse with the attributes of human glory, but seated on a donkey, in peace.
