And in the temple the blind and the lame came to Him, and He healed them.
After the cleansing of the Temple, the blind and the lame come near to Jesus—those who had been rejected by people. Jesus heals them in that same Temple which he had cleansed, showing that his presence restores not only the holiness of the Temple, but also the wholeness of human life. By this act he proves that the Lord’s House is returning to its true purpose, becoming a place of healing and mercy, where God’s power works for the sake of those who suffer. The healing by Jesus testifies that where sin and self-interest are driven out, God’s healing grace becomes living and visible. This episode also shows a prophetic fulfillment: “the eyes of the blind and the ears of the deaf will be opened” (Isaiah 35:5).
