Matthew 13:56

Are not all his sisters with us? Then where did he get all this?”

Here the attitude of the residents of Nazareth expresses a deeply marked unbelief. They do not dispute that Jesus speaks with wisdom and acts with power, but they do not accept the source of all this. Knowing His family, they think they already know everything about Jesus, and in their eyes that knowledge rules out any divine source. Their question, “Then where did he get all this?”, reveals spiritual closedness. They cannot imagine that God can work through someone who, in their eyes, is “one of their own.” This reminds us of an important reality: when a person trusts too much in human notions, he can become closed to the truth. For this very reason Jesus, even with His true word and divine power, was rejected, because by their human standards He was too well-known, yet in reality He was not known by them.
