And the field is the world, the good seed are those who are sons of the kingdom. And the weeds are the sons of the evil one.
In this passage Jesus explains that the field symbolizes the whole world. This means that the meaning of the parable is not limited to one region or one people, but concerns all people; that is, all humanity is in that “field” where the sowing takes place. The good seeds, according to Jesus’ explanation, are the people who have believed in God and are true believers, whose purpose in life is to please God. And the weeds—the bad seeds—symbolize people who do not submit to God, live by their own will, and by their conduct serve evil. Although outwardly they may resemble the good seeds, in reality they do not belong to the kingdom of God.
