He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and mixed into three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”
This parable presents the influence of the kingdom of God as a power that works from within and transforms the whole. The leaven, though small and at first almost unnoticed, when mixed into a large amount of flour, in time leavens the entire mass. In the same way, the kingdom of heaven—God’s word, the truth, and His living presence—when it penetrates the depths of a person’s heart or of society, does not immediately create outward noise, yet it irreversibly changes the whole being. This parable shows that God’s work often begins with silence and humility, but its effect is universal and complete. The kingdom is not imposed from the outside, but changes a person from within, transforming the mind, conduct, and the whole life, until “the whole is leavened.”
