Matthew 13:27

And the servants of the master of the house came up to him and said, “Lord, did you not sow good seed in your field? Then how did the weeds appear?”

In this saying Jesus shows how people respond to the presence of evil. The servants are astonished about where the weeds came from, if the master had sown only good seed. This also reflects people’s question to God: why does evil exist in the world if God sows goodness? This passage also emphasizes that evil does not come from God, but from the adversary, who secretly sows his seeds alongside the good seed. In the following verses Jesus will explain in this way that in the world good and evil grow side by side until the day of judgment, when God will judge everything with righteousness.
