And when the grass grew and bore fruit, then the weeds also appeared.
Jesus says here that the difference between good and evil may at first remain unnoticed, but over time it begins to be distinguished. The growth of the wheat and its bearing fruit symbolize the influence of God’s word, while the appearance of the weeds shows that what the evil one has sown does not remain hidden either.
