Matthew 13:22

As for the seed that fell among the thorns, this is the person who hears the word, but the cares of this world and the deceptions of wealth choke it, and it remains unfruitful.

Jesus describes people who hear the word of God, but it is choked because of worldly concerns and material desires. “The cares of this world” refers to everyday problems, anxieties, and worries that distract a person from the word of God. “The deceitfulness of riches” shows that material goods can mislead a person by creating a false sense of security and drawing him away from spiritual values. These people may at first receive the word of God, but because their heart is divided between the world and God, the word cannot fully grow within them, and therefore they cannot bear spiritual fruit. This word warns that the word of God must be received with a pure and sincere heart, otherwise worldly distractions can hinder spiritual growth and leave it unfruitful.
