That day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea.
This passage shows that Jesus went out of the house in order to teach a wider circle of people. The seashore was an ideal place for a large crowd, since the water helped the voice carry well. Jesus sat down, which symbolized the traditional posture of teaching by which teachers instructed their disciples. This is the beginning of the parables through which he explains the mysteries of the kingdom of God.
