Everyone who hears the word of the kingdom of God and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away the word that was sown in his heart. This is the seed that fell beside the road.
Jesus explains that the seed that fell beside the road represents people who hear the word of God but do not understand it. Since the word does not take root in their hearts, Satan easily snatches it away before it can bring change in their lives. The soil of the road is hard and trampled, which means that these people’s hearts are not open to the word of God. Their attention is distracted, or they are indifferent, and therefore the evil one takes advantage of that situation by taking the truth away from them.
