So do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.
With these words Jesus comforts and reassures His disciples, showing the value of a person in God’s eyes. If even small and seemingly insignificant creatures, like sparrows, are not left outside God’s care, then all the more so people, who are created in the image of God. The exhortation “Do not be afraid” is grounded not in outward security, but in the awareness of God’s providential care, and this word calls the believer to live with confidence, knowing that he is precious to God and is within His protecting presence.
