A disciple is not above the teacher, nor is a servant above his lord.
Jesus shows here that the disciples should not expect a higher position or an easier path than their Teacher. In other words, if the Teacher bears sacrifice and persecutions, then his disciples also must be ready for the same kind of path. Here Jesus warns beforehand, or hints, that following him may include hardships and sacrifices.
