And Jesus said to her, “Because of this word of yours, go. the demon has come out of your daughter.”
Christ gladly accepts the woman’s faith and responds to her word. He says, “for this word,” showing that this very reply became the living and wise expression of her faith. That is, the woman’s answer revealed the true condition of her heart: humble faith, patience, and trust toward mercy. The demon had already come out of her daughter by Christ’s command, even though the woman was still far from home. In this episode it is also seen that the woman receives more than she was simply asking for, because the Lord completely delivers her daughter without His physical presence. This shows that the Lord’s authority is not bound by spatial limits. He can deliver one who is at a distance with the same power as one who stands near. This verse is also a great comfort for those who pray. When we ask in faith for others who are far away, the Lord can act (and does act) for them as well with His unlimited power.
