But the woman answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs are fed from the crumbs under the table.”
This woman’s answer is a wonderful example of humble faith, wise perseverance, and love. She is not offended by Christ’s word, does not oppose Him, and does not justify herself. She accepts the order the Lord has spoken: “Yes, Lord,” yet within that very word she finds a door of hope. Even if she is not among the children sitting at the table, she knows that under such an abundant table even the crumbs are enough for her need. She does not demand first place, but pleads for a small portion of mercy, being confident that with Christ even a small mercy is enough to overcome a great evil.
