And when He had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples asked Him about that parable.
The disciples, as often happened, heard Christ’s word but did not immediately understand its full depth. This does not condemn them; rather, it reveals the natural course of true discipleship. They do not pretend that they have understood everything, but they ask. This is a sign of humility. The soul that does not understand the truth, yet desires to know and comes to Christ to receive an explanation, is on the right path. The Lord explains to His disciples privately what the crowd had heard only in a general way. In the same way, spiritual knowledge deepens not only through public hearing, but also in private communion with Christ.
