And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you”.
This verse reveals Christ’s deepest healing. The sick man perhaps expected bodily help, but the Lord first addresses the deeper wound of his soul: sin. In this way Jesus shows that a person’s greatest misery is not only physical inability, but the burden of sin that separates him from God. The address “Son” is filled with tenderness and acceptance; the Lord speaks not in condemnation, but with fatherly mercy. He sees not only the condition of the sick man, but also the faith of those who brought him, and that faith becomes the foundation of blessing. This verse teaches us that true salvation begins from within, with the forgiveness of sins, because when the soul is reconciled with God, a person receives real peace and salvation.
