Mark 2:25

And He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and became hungry, he and those who were with him?

This verse shows how Christ responds not merely by contradicting them, but by revealing the deep meaning of Holy Scripture. He recalls David’s example to show that even in the Old Covenant God did not intend the law in such a way that it would disregard extreme human needs. The mention of David is also important, because he was an anointed king, and his example in a significant way points to the greater Anointed One, Christ. The Lord asks them, “Have you not read,” which is not only a reminder, but also an accusation against those who relied heavily on knowledge of Scripture, yet did not understand its spiritual essence.
