Mark 2:19

And Jesus said to them, “Can the sons of the wedding feast fast while the Bridegroom is with them? As long as the Bridegroom is with them, they cannot fast.”

This verse reveals the joyful nature of Christ’s presence. He presents Himself as the Bridegroom, and the disciples as participants in a wedding feast. This is an Old Testament image by which God’s relationship with His people was portrayed as a marriage covenant. Now that joyful reality was standing among them in bodily form. Therefore, during the time of Christ’s presence, the main emphasis was not on mourning, but on joy. Yet here there is also a deep hint that the Bridegroom will not always be with them in the same way. This word teaches that spiritual practices must be carried out according to their proper time and divine purpose, not mechanically.
