Seizing him, they killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.
This saying prophetically points to the death of Christ. They rejected Him, condemned Him, and killed Him outside the wall of Jerusalem. Casting Him out of the vineyard shows the disgrace with which people treated the Son of God. Yet what they did in evil, God turned into a way of salvation. Christ was cast out so that by His blood He might save those who had been left outside the life of God. This verse is dreadful because of human sin, but it is also deeply saving, because here the approaching mystery of the way of the cross is revealed.
