He again sent another servant, but they crushed his head and sent him away in disgrace.
The Lord’s patience is seen more clearly here. The injustice toward the first servant was sufficient reason to bring judgment, yet the owner of the vineyard sends another servant again. This shows God’s longsuffering, by which He continually sent prophets in order to bring the people to repentance. But sin, when it is not repented of, often becomes even more hardened. They not only reject the second servant, but also insult and disgrace him. This is how the hard-hearted person responds to God’s rebuke: he not only does not listen, but hates the light that exposes his sin.
