As Jesus was teaching in the temple, He said, “How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is David’s Son?
Now Christ Himself raises a question, correcting people’s messianic understanding. The scribes were right to say that the Messiah is the Son of David, because the promise was given to David’s line (2 Samuel 7:12–16). Yet they often stopped only at His human origin and did not recognize His divine Lordship. Christ’s question does not deny that He is the Son of David, but reveals that He is more. In this way He leads people toward a deeper knowledge of His person.
