The scribe said to Him, “Well, Teacher, You have spoken truthfully that God is one, and besides Him there is no other.”
The scribe agrees with Christ’s word and affirms the truth of God’s oneness. His answer shows that he not only heard, but also recognized the truth of the answer. God’s oneness is a foundational confession of faith: if God is one and there is no other besides Him, then a person’s heart cannot rightly be divided among idols, love of the world, or self-love. This confession is correct, but it must also reach the transformation of life. Accepting the truth only in words is still not enough: it must change a person’s heart and be seen in his life.
