The Sadducees’ question seems clever on the surface, but in reality it is born of unbelief. They ask not in order to know the truth, but to mock the resurrection. Their understanding of the resurrection is far too low: they think it is merely the restoration of the present life without change. But God promises not a repetition of the fallen order, but a new life by His power. This question teaches us that divine truths must be understood in the light of God’s revelation, not by limited human imagination.
