The Sadducees continue the story, further enlarging their supposed difficulty. Their aim is to show that, if there is a resurrection, the question of marital bonds will become unsolvable. But they do not understand that the resurrection promised by God is not a return to all the limitations of earthly life, but an entrance into a glorified state. This verse also shows how a person can build a long argument on a false foundation. When the foundation is wrong, the length of the argument does not make it true.
