There were seven brothers. The first took a wife and died, leaving no offspring.
They begin with an invented or supposed story by which they want to present faith in the resurrection as absurdity. The death of the first brother and his remaining without children becomes the starting point of their argument. Yet their thinking is built on a false assumption: that the life of the resurrection is simply a continuation of this life with the same needs, the danger of death, and questions of inheritance. Unbelief often mocks what it does not understand, because it does not accept that God can create a new order of life that surpasses the limits of the present world.
