This came from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes.”
This word shows that Christ’s rejection, death, and exaltation were within the Lord’s providence. To the human eye the cross seemed like defeat, but in God’s sight it was the victory of salvation. The expression “It is marvelous” shows that faith sees what the natural mind cannot understand: the rejected Christ became the foundation of salvation, the condemned One the source of justification, the crucified One the Lord of life. This gives great comfort to the believer’s heart: God can turn people’s rejection and evil into His glory and the salvation of His people.
