And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing that?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it,’ and he will immediately send it here.”
The phrase “The Lord needs it” has a deep mystery. He who is Lord of everything, in His humility, desires to make use of a simple animal for His prophetic entry. This word shows that even the smallest thing in creation can become an instrument of God’s plan when the Lord calls it. The disciples were to speak not with a long explanation, but with a simple declaration of the Lord’s authority. This teaches that in service for Christ there is no great or small thing; what the Lord uses for His purposes is made holy in service. At the same time, this word shows that Christ’s authority is recognized by those whose hearts are ready to obey.
