And again they came to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the High Priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him.
The Lord returns to the temple, where the previous day He had carried out an act of cleansing. Now the religious and official leaders of the people come to Him: the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. Their coming shows organized resistance. They represented official authority, yet their hearts were closed before the One who was the true Lord of the temple. Christ walks in the temple freely and with authority, and they come to interrogate Him. This encounter reveals the contrast between two authorities: human official authority and divine true authority.
