Peter remembered and said to Him, “Rabbi, look, the fig tree that You cursed has withered.”
Peter, with amazement, notices the power of Christ’s word. What the Lord said the previous day had now been fulfilled completely. This was a lesson for the disciples about Christ’s authority: His word does not return empty. If His word of blessing gives life, His word of judgment is also carried out. Peter’s remembering is important, because the disciples had to learn to see the connection between the Lord’s word and reality. Faith grows when a person remembers what Christ said and sees its fulfillment.
