and he said, “Be careful not to tell anyone anything, but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer a sacrifice for your cleansing as a testimony, what Moses commanded.”
This verse shows Christ’s respect for the proper order of the Law until the completion of His ministry. He sends the healed man to the priest so that his cleansing may be officially confirmed according to Moses’ command (Leviticus 14). This was also to become a testimony for the spiritual leaders, that God is working among His people in an unusual way. Christ does not set Himself against the true order of the Old Covenant, but shows that in His work it finds its fulfillment. This verse also reminds us that God’s grace must be received with reverent obedience, not with self-willed conduct.
