And as soon as he said it, the leprosy immediately left him, and he was cleansed.
This verse shows the immediate and perfect nature of Jesus’ healing. His word needs no time, because it is with divine power. Leprosy, which had afflicted that man for a long time and had driven him out from society, disappears in an instant at Christ’s command. This is not only a physical healing, but also a beautiful picture of cleansing from sin. Just as leprosy made a person unclean, so sin damages a person’s relationship with God. But just as Christ cleansed the leper, with the same power He can cleanse—and does cleanse—the repentant sinner.
