And Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I am willing. be cleansed.”
This verse reveals Christ’s heart with a special sweetness. He is compassionate, that is, human pain touches Him. Moreover, He touches the leper, while according to the law people avoided such sick persons. Christ’s holiness is not defiled by what is unclean; on the contrary, His holiness cleanses him. The words “I am willing” are a great comfort for all who suffer, because they show that Christ’s power is joined to His merciful will. He not only is able, but also is willing to cleanse those who come to Him in faith.
