Now Simon’s mother-in-law was lying down sick with a fever, and immediately they told Him about her.
This verse presents an ordinary pain that is very close to human life. Alongside great miracles, the Gospel does not overlook the sick person in the home either. The disciples present their need to Christ, and this is a beautiful example of prayer: when trouble enters a house, the true path is to make it known to the Lord. The condition of the sick woman shows human weakness, and the disciples’ appeal shows the simple course of faith. Thus, even family sorrows that seem small are worthy of Christ’s attention.
