They entered Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath day, after going into the synagogue, Jesus was teaching them.
This verse presents one of the two main aspects of Christ’s ministry: teaching. He enters the synagogue, the place where people gathered to hear the word of God. Christ’s manner of acting shows that He does not come to tear down true worship, but comes to bring it to its fulfillment. His teaching takes place among the people, where they most directly needed the truth. This reminds us that the kingdom of God is established first and foremost by the word, by making the truth known and enlightening the human heart.
